How does the automatic designer work?
How does the automatic designer work?
Solution
The automatic designer attempts to design the structure using a pre-defined design algorithm. The algorithm starts by finding the reinforcement diameter, area and spacing that would satisfy the design parameters. Then it increases the reinforcement until the adequate resistance is provided to the section. This algorithm can give in many cases acceptable results, but in many others designs that are incomplete. Further manual design is then needed to cover the parameters not considered by the algorithm, such as the number of the column reinforcement stirrups in each direction. Yet however, the automatic designer can speed up the design process by giving a first approximation to the design solution.
